The Watermelon Index, launched by Progressive International, identifies over 400 companies in the UK deemed complicit in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The Watermelon Index serves as a tool for worker-led resistance against the Israeli apartheid regime's genocide in Gaza. It highlights companies, including Barclays, Maersk, Amazon, Microsoft, and Airbnb, that maintain ties with Israel. This initiative allows workers to connect and challenge their employers regarding their involvement in the ongoing violence.
Progressive International assesses complicity based on various forms of support offered to the Israeli regime, such as financial and military aid. The index also provides information on worker-led campaigns aimed at opposing these corporate ties, enabling solidarity among employees.
Various activist groups have already achieved significant victories, including blocking military shipments to Israel, such as dockworkers in Tangier refusing to load military cargo for Maersk. This collective action underscores the potential for worker mobilization against complicity in the genocide.
